Opportunity: Designers were asked to collaborate with two other designers to create an original product that corresponds with an app. Designers were expected to create a brand identity, prototype of the product, design an app, website, and create other collateral.

Solution: Running with audio that matches your tempo can help one to maintain the motivation to keep running. This is an effect known as Auditory Motor Synchronization and is most commonly seen in runner's metronomes. Music has the same effect, but finding songs that match your tempo is difficult. AIRO combines the power of the metronome with the entertainment of music. This device ties onto one's shoelaces and uses BPM and motion sensor technology to sync your running tempo with the music you're listening to on Spotify or Apple Music. The app shows your running and music stats and allows you to set your tempo pace.

The AIRO Product

Our team decided to physically create our product so that we could shoot it in action for our website. We worked together to come up with a design and then 3D printed it actual size. 3D prints don't always turn out the way you think they should. We had to come up with several different designs and print several before we got it right.

The AIRO Application

The AIRO Product uses bluetooth to connect to the iPhone and communicates with the AIRO Application. This app is what generates one's music to running tempo measured by AIRO. The app then gives the runner visual information about the music that played during their run. This includes songs played, beats per minute, pace run, and daily weekly and monthly music logs.

As AIRO's co-founders, we decided that we should all come wearing brand attire for our presentation. I used my Cricut machine to cut out iron-on-vinyl and create matching T-shirts for our team.
